Man scams American ‘lover’ of over N18.5m

A 34-year-old man, has been arrested for allegedly defrauding a supposed lover from the United States of over N18.5 million.

The victim, a retired civil servant had come from Washington DC to Nigeria to visit the suspect, Chukwuebuka Obiaku after meeting on Facebook.

Mr Obiaku, a graduate of Business Administration and Management is said to be a fraudster who scams people locally and internationally, a statement on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, revealed.

“He subsequently held her captive in a hotel, extorted from her money amounting to a total of $48,000. He also forcefully collected and took control of her credit and debit cards, as well as the operation of her bank accounts, including the receipt of her monthly retirement benefits and allowances over the period of 15 months,” the police said.

The retired civil servant reportedly lost about N18.5m to Obiaku, who allegedly took control of her credit and debit cards, as well as the operation of her bank accounts after taking her receipt of monthly retirement benefits and allowances for about 15 months.
