Ivory Coast Vice President resigns days after PM’s death
Vice President Daniel Kablan Duncan of Ivory Coast has tendered his resignation, Monday, days after the sudden death of the Prime Minister, Amadou Gon Coulibaly; President Alassane Ouattara’s preferred predecessor.
The resignation which according to a top aide to the President, Patrick Achi, had been tendered since February was for “reasons of personal convenience”.
“The president of the republic would like to pay tribute to a great servant of the state [Duncan], a man of duty and commitment,” Achi said to reporters.
The development has further unsettled the ruling party’s quest to finding a suitable replacement candidate since the president’s formal announcement that he would not stand for a third term in office.
