The maiden project was one to herald the “Significance Of Tree Planting” to all and sundry in Nigeria and also a perfect way to preserve and conserve the environment for the future without compromising the present.
Rotn. Prince Akeem Shonde JP also elaborated with a speech on “Tree Planting” stating that trees are plants that carry out the life processes that all plants share. Trees are the green cover of the planet. Trees are like a green carpet for the earth and they are very important for human life as well as animals. Both human and animals are dependent on trees. The difference between other plants and trees is that while other plants typically have multiple soft or slightly woody stems, trees have one hard, woody and tall trunk with few leaves or branches on the upper section.
Why are trees vital? As the biggest plants on the planet, they give us oxygen. Nobody can survive without oxygen. Trees and of course plants use the carbon-dioxide which is poisonous to us and we ordinarily expel from the body by breathing out. Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is also responsible for the Green house effect that scientists of late are worried about as they see the threat that it is capable of provoking the earth being submerged in water. Trees also stabilise the soil preventing erosion and landslides that are capable of killing humans and livestock. Trees give life to the world’s wildlife. They also provide us with the materials for tools and shelter.
He stated further that about 30% of the earth is covered with trees, but they are dwindling rapidly and because this is happening, we have to come to the earth’s rescue by planting trees so that the carbon dioxide emitted would be safely consumed and the earth will be a safe place for us to live again.”
What does that suggest? We must plant trees and that is what Rotary Club did to commemorate their annual project.
Thank You All For Keeping Your Environment Safe For Life!.
