APC crisis: Party’s NWC meets without Oshiomhole
– The APC has moved on without Comrade Adams Oshiomhole – The party’s National Working Committee met on Tuesday, March 10 without Oshiomhole present – Party officials are eagerly preparing for the emergency National Executive Committee scheduled for Tuesday, March 17 The National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) met behind closed doors on Tuesday, March 10. Interestingly, the suspended national chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, did not attend the meeting. At the meeting, the party chieftains focused mainly on Tuesday, March 17 emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting earlier announced. Oshiomhole seems to be a political orphan at the moment. It has been confirmed that President Muhammadu Buhari will attend the meeting. Oshiomhole’s is fighting one of the biggest battles of his political life at the moment. A recent report indicates that 13 out of 20 APC governors have officially endorsed his removal as the party’s national chairman. We urge NWC members, secretariat staff to resume duties – APC Oshiomhole was recently suspended by his party at his ward, local government and state levels. Allegations that triggered his suspension include; alleged highhandedness, misappropriation of funds and disregard for the rule of law. Governors of the party are of the opinion that the ruling APC, has in recent days been going through a lot of turmoil due to Oshiomhole’s high-handedness. The APC governors had earlier asked the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party to immediately replace Oshiomhole. The governors through the director-general of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Salihu Lukman, on Friday, March 6 also asked Oshiomhole to quit. Oshiomhole’s woes were compounded recently when efforts by some aides of his aides to gain entrance into the APC secretariat in Abuja were rebuffed by security agents on Friday, March 6. Oshiomhole’s loyalists were denied access to the party’s secretariat by a detachment of policemen drawn from the Counter-Terrorism Unit, mobile and regular forces. APC governors speak against Oshiomhole, want party to reinstate members suspended by embattled chair Meanwhile, a recent media report indicates that the recent crisis in the ruling APC is a power-play between the party’s governors and their national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In a related development, the Edo state chapter of the APC loyal to Oshiomhole, says there will be no right of first refusal or reserved slot for Governor Godwin Obaseki who is battling for a second term ticket of the party. The Edo state chapter of the APC currently has two factions. One loyal to Governor Obaseki and the other loyal to the embattled APC national chairman.
