Coronavirus live updates: latest news as US launches Europe travel ban and Tom Hanks tests positive
Coronavirus measures have sparked another market selloff after Donald Trump announced a ban on travel from mainland Europe to the United States in an Oval Office address.
The FTSE 100 dropped five per cent in the first half-hour after opening as the United States upped its response to the outbreak, despite funding announcements from the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, in the Budget yesterday.
Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, both 63, have tested positive for Covid-19 in Australia, where the Forrest Gump actor was due to begin filming a film with Baz Luhrmann shortly.

Back in the UK, Government plans which would see the Premier League and lower division seasons finished behind closed doors were revealed in a report by the Times. The games will continue to be televised, with an increased number allowed in the usual slots, but a ban on screening football in the pub will also be imposed.

Cristiano Ronaldo has gone into quarantine at his home in the Portuguese Atlantic island of Madeira after his Juventus teammate, Daniele Rugani, tested positive for coronavirus.
The club have activated isolation procedures, as is required by law in badly hit Italy, with the entire squad now staying home.
Juventus are due to play Lyon in the Champions League next week despite the suspension of domestic football in Italy. That fixture could now be in doubt. 20 minutes ago
In numbers
In the UK, there have been 456 positive cases and six deaths, according to the latest figures from the Department of Health and Social Care.
In total, there have been 126,344 confirmed cases worldwide, with 4,639 deaths and 68,288 recoveries thus far according to Johns Hopkins’ tracker.
China has had the most cases, with 80,932, while Italy – which is now in national lockdown – has had the second most, with 12,462. There have been 827 deaths in Italy.
The US has now confirmed 1,312 cases, with France on 2,284, Spain on 2,277 and Germany on 1,966.
