ROTARY CLUB GIVES PALLIATIVES
It was celebration galore at the Old People’s Home,Onike-Yaba Lagos on Easter Monday 13th April 2020 as Rotary Club of Ogudu GRA (ROGRA) led by its President, Rotn. Vivian Ohiaeri celebrated with the Management Staff and inmates of the Home.At a time like this when food and other daily necessities are hard to come by, ROGRA deemed it fit to reach out to ºsenior citizens within the age bracket of 60 years and above. In fact the oldest man in the Home is 110 years and the oldest woman is 105.
Apart from being vulnerable because of age, this group of people according to medical experts are more susceptible to being affected by the COVID-!9 pandemic due to compromised immunity and age-related underrlying illnesses.
For ROGRA, it is not possible to leave everything in the hands of the government as social media is awash with disaffection for the government as expectations for adequate palliatives fizzled out resulting in despondency. The charitable intervention of ROGRA, therefore, in this lockdown period is considered by the beneficiaries as most profound and divine and a renewal of their hope in humanity.
Items donated included toiletries, foodstuffs like rice, noodles,yams, eggs, vegetable oil, multivitamin fortified drinks, e.t.c, sanitizers, clothings, bottled water, etc. The items were received at the Home by the administrator who expressed so much joy at the visit and the thought that they could be remembered and reached out to made not only the Administrator who expressed so much joy at the visit and eulogised the thoughtfulness of the Club.
We can authoritatively assert that with this single humanitarian gesture, ROGRA has fulfilled her guiding principles of
“The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say or do …
- Is it the TRUTH?
- Is it FAIR to all concerned?
- Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
- Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?”
It is indubitable, therefore, that this Club is one of its kind in our generation.
