COVID-19 will circulate to every state in Nigeria – NCDC boss

Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) director-general, is of the opinion that every Nigerian state will have its share of the global pandemic called coronavirus. Ihekweazu made the disclosure while speaking on Channels Television breakfast show, Sunrise Daily, on Thursday, April 16. The NCDC boss stressed that though the federal government was making efforts to further curb the spread of the virus, it has been a tough task. He said: “We have responded to Lassa smoothly and nobody shut down the country because it wasn’t necessary, the response was fairly efficient. The NCDC boss believes every state in Nigeria will have its share of the coronavirus pandemic. Source: Facebook “Now, COVID-19 is on a much larger scale – at the moment in 22 states but it will grow to every state in Nigeria, there is no reason why it won’t – it is a respiratory virus.” Ihekweazu in reaction to the differences in the figures of confirmed cases released by the health agency and the numbers in some states noted that the NCDC has been working hard to tackle the virus while the state authorities have their roles to play. While insisting that the country cannot run away from the outbreak, the NCDC boss said the agency would continue to be transparent with the results and stimulate more responses from various aspects of the government. The NCDC boss said: “We really have to face the reality that this is an outbreak, this is a virus. The NCDC DG made this known at the media briefing of the presidential task force on COVID-19 on Wednesday, April 8.It was also gathered that Ihekweazu was reacting to a question on how the governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde, recovered from the virus in less than one week.
